On May 16, the Department of Labor issued its long awaited final regulations on updates to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The new rules will take effect on December 1, 2016.
Employers need to review their employee classifications and prepare for the new rules affecting eligibility for overtime pay now.
One of the most significant changes will be the increase in the salary threshold for exempt workers from $23,660 to $47,476 annually. It has been estimated that as many as 4 million workers in the US will need to be reclassified as non-exempt workers.
