EIG: What brought you to Eastern Insurance?

LL: About 12 years ago I was a Blue Cross Blue Shield service coordinator. While there I developed a wonderful working relationship with Colleen Doherty, who is now a Senior Vice President at Eastern. I loved working with Colleen so much that when a position opened up in her group at Eastern’s Norwell office I jumped at the chance to interview for it. Once I met everyone else on that team, I knew Eastern would be the right place for me. It’s been a fast 12 years!

EIG: What do you value most about working for Eastern Benefits Group?

LL: Eastern really values all of its employees and actively seeks our input. Even though I didn’t go to college, I’ve been able to work my way up and succeed at Eastern on the basis of my skills, knowledge, and daily contributions. My colleagues respect me and consider me—after 12 years on the job—a knowledgeable resource. Eastern’s leadership regularly makes the time to appreciate employees. It’s like any relationship, I suppose—they value me, so I value working here.

Also, I can’t say enough about my Benefits team and everyone else I work with on a daily basis. In fact, I want to call out a few people I simply could not succeed without—Brian and my account managers: Sue, Tiffany, and Kenia. We are all in this together. I truly feel that at Eastern, I am my team. We’re that collaborative.

EIG: Are there any organizations that you feel strongly about supporting?

LL: Dog rescues! Especially bulldog rescues. Those dogs have my heart and my family just loves them, too—we have one called Moose who refuses to leave my office. We really believe in the mission of bulldog rescues because that breed suffers from inbreeding and related health issues. So, we donate to them whenever we can. And then there’s Cradles to Crayons, a nonprofit I’ve supported as a volunteer for many years. They have a wonderful mission to help Massachusetts children living in poverty.

EIG: What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

LL: Traveling is my thing - I absolutely love it. My father was stationed in Germany when I was growing up so maybe living abroad gave me the travel bug. The early exposure to other lands and cultures really opened doors for me. I’ve been lucky to travel throughout Europe, the United States, and South Africa. And I’d love to visit Japan and Australia in the future.

EIG: What advice would you give to someone who is considering a career at Eastern?

LL: If you want to work at Eastern, be prepared for constant change! The organization is always innovating, there’s always something new to learn, and it really keeps you on your toes. I’m never bored.

What Laura's coworkers say…!

She is often the one to raise her hand when a volunteer is needed and is always willing to help a colleague.  We are grateful to have her on our team!”

-Joan Marasco, Senior Vice President, Eastern Benefits Group

“There aren’t enough positive words to describe Laura. I have had the great privilege of working with Laura for the last 12 years. In that time, she has grown into an amazing consultant whose passion to advise her clients is also matched by her compassion. We are in the business of balancing insurance budgets with the personal needs of our client’s employees. Some consultants are strong on the numbers and others on supporting people. Few can do both. Laura is one of the rare consultants that has been able to find the balance and be effective. She provides keen insurance advice through a lens of humanity that few possess.”

-Brian Charon, Senior Vice President, Sales, Eastern Benefits Group

“Laura goes above and beyond in every circumstance she faces. She is always the first to raise her hand to learning new things, and makes herself available to help every person on her team grow by any contribution she can provide. Her patience, passion, time management and ease of explaining complex issues truly makes her shine. Our clients trust Laura in guidance as she’s extremely detail oriented, creative in strategy, personable and always efficient in her business process.
